The Heat Season

My apartment is notoriously warm. Alot of the time I actually open my window to even it out because of the heat. I do not have a thermostat, so I’m at the mercy of the pipes. My sister’s place is only warm when she cooks, which luckily is alot.
Lots of older apartments in [...]

Arby’s comes to New York City!

I find this to be pretty hilarious.  I remember when I lived in a small town and it was a big deal that we got a Hardee’s. There was only 1 McDonald’s and 1 Sonic at the time.

Retro Movie Showings

Retro Movie Showings – Google calendar
I love to see past movies in the movie theater. There are a number of theaters in New York City that show them.
Here is a link to a Google calendar of upcoming showings. I will do my best to keep it updated. Please contact me if you have [...]

Look for the globes!

When you’re out roaming the streets, looking for a subway entrance, look for the globes. At night they are lit up to let you see them from a distance.
Just like traffic lights, green means it’s a go, red means stop, it’s not open. The subway is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, [...]

The Blizzard

This snowstorm is becoming epic. Here’s some pics from the front door of my apartment building.

This does not happen in the subway

I was watching Hellboy recently when I realized something.  In the below scene (which takes place in the fictitious Palmer St subway stop), Hellboy is almost hit by a train going full speed through a stop without stopping.  I have NEVER seen this happen. In lots of stations, there are two tracks: the express track, [...]

Skating at 30 Rock

This weekend we took a trip into the city and walked by Rockefeller Center. Here are some photos:

Movie Screening-Saint John of Las Vegas

One of the selling points of New York for me was that I would be able to attend movie screenings.  I remember being in high school reading my Entertainment Weekly and there would be an ad for preview screenings. (Always in the big cities of course.) I remember thinking that it would be SO COOL [...]

Dress for the weather

It’s winter, it’s cold. Before moving here, dressing for the cold weather consisted of a coat, scarf and gloves. I went from my apartment to the car, from the car to my destination. Sure I had to warm up the car, but basically, I was only outside for a MAXIMUM of 5 minutes.  My longest [...]
